What is ISO 7638?

Fixed wiring between the ISO 7638 socket on the tractor or the plug on the trailer and the ABS/EBS modulator: power supply for the braking electronics on the 4.0 mm² (24 V) or 6.0 mm² (12 V) cores, CAN and warning lamp on the 1.5 mm² cores. Pair with ISO 7638 plugs, sockets and coil cables.

How to choose the cross-section

Select the conductor cross-section on the current of the circuit and the cable length: 0.35–1.0 mm² for signals and sensors, 1.5–2.5 mm² for lighting and most control circuits, 4.0–6.0 mm² for high-load consumers, and 10 mm² and above for supply, battery and earth leads. When in doubt, go one size up — voltage drop on 24 V trailers is a common cause of lighting faults.
