Application and selection

What is ISO 1185/3731?

Trailer lighting cable for the classic 24 V 7-pin systems: type N (ISO 1185) for the main lighting functions with a 2.5 mm² earth core, type S (ISO 3731) for the supplementary functions. Runs from the socket or plug along the chassis to the rear lamp junction box. Colour-coded to DIN 72551 for direct termination.

How to choose the cross-section

Select the conductor cross-section on the current of the circuit and the cable length: 0.35–1.0 mm² for signals and sensors, 1.5–2.5 mm² for lighting and most control circuits, 4.0–6.0 mm² for high-load consumers, and 10 mm² and above for supply, battery and earth leads. When in doubt, go one size up — voltage drop on 24 V trailers is a common cause of lighting faults.
