Application and selection
What is ISO 12098?
Fixed cable from the ISO 12098 15-pin socket or plug to the trailer lighting and signal distribution: all lighting functions, reversing, fog, side markers and the spare circuits in one cable. The 2.5 mm² cores carry earth and the higher-load circuits. Matches ISO 12098 plugs, sockets and 15-pin coil cables.
How to choose the cross-section
Select the conductor cross-section on the current of the circuit and the cable length: 0.35–1.0 mm² for signals and sensors, 1.5–2.5 mm² for lighting and most control circuits, 4.0–6.0 mm² for high-load consumers, and 10 mm² and above for supply, battery and earth leads. When in doubt, go one size up — voltage drop on 24 V trailers is a common cause of lighting faults.
